The GLOPOL-MSCA project contributed to the AUFRANDE Annual Event 2026, held from 29 April to 1 May 2026 at UNSW Sydney, through participation in the panel discussion “Joint PhDs, Mobility and Horizon Europe: Australia–Europe Pathways for Researchers,” which took place on 1 May 2026. The session brought together key stakeholders from Australia and Europe to explore how joint doctoral programmes, researcher mobility, and Horizon Europe are shaping future collaboration pathways.
From an MSCA perspective, the discussion highlighted concrete entry points for Australian researchers into Horizon Europe, particularly through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), and emphasised the role of structured mobility schemes in strengthening doctoral training and international collaboration. From an institutional perspective, the panel underscored the importance of developing supportive frameworks for joint supervision, mobility management, and international partnerships, as well as the need for early strategic engagement with European counterparts. The discussion also highlighted the growing relevance of Horizon Europe and the anticipated Australia–EU Free Trade Agreement in expanding opportunities for collaboration.
Overall, the session reinforced the importance of aligning researcher ambitions with institutional strategies to enable sustainable, long-term engagement with Europe.
