The webinar “MSCA DN for Research Institutions from Brazil” was successfully held online on 28 May 2026, bringing together participants from Brazilian universities, research centres, and related organisations. Organised by the GLOPOL-MSCA project, the session provided a comprehensive overview of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks (DN) and the opportunities they offer to Brazilian institutions. By providing a clear roadmap of eligibility and access to funding for non-associated high-income third countries such as Brazil, the event aimed to empower local universities and private sector organisations to take an active role in these prestigious global networks.
A key message of the event was that all Brazilian institutions can participate in MSCA DN consortia. In most cases they do so as associated partners, hosting secondments and contributing to the training of doctoral candidates – as illustrated by José Luz Silveira’s testimonial on the MSCA DN INCEPTION project at São Paulo State University (UNESP) Guaratinguéta. Importantly, Brazilian institutions may also be funded directly by the European Commission as full beneficiaries when their participation is deemed essential to the network.
Brazil’s engagement with MSCA DN is already significant: 14 Brazilian institutions currently participate in 16 MSCA Doctoral Networks under Horizon Europe.
Moving beyond simple theory, this event offered a practical look at the programme through a real-life testimonial. Our goal is to bridge the gap between the European Research Area (ERA) and the Brazilian research ecosystem, creating a stronger, more interconnected community to address global challenges through high-quality knowledge exchange.
